Cultural Dancing
The Chinese Youth League Cultural Dancing Group (CYLCDG) has been an important part of CYL for many years. The group aims to teach and preserve Chinese culture and raise awareness of the beautiful art of Chinese Dancing. The class is taught by Susanna and will be conducted in Mandarin and Cantonese. Susanna was selected from an early age to be admitted to the Guangxi Academy of Arts in China to study dance. After graduation, she worked in the Guangzhou Military Region Song and Dance Troupe as a professional dancer and choreographer. She participated in The Guangzhou Military Region Art Competition and won the first prize in the Art Creation and Arrangement Competition and two second prizes.
Classes and Performances
The CYL Cultural Dancing Group is often invited to perform at various year round events, ranging from charity events, cultural celebrations, to major festivals in and out of Sydney, with Chinese New Year and the Moon Festival being two of the main performances.
Dance classes are held at the CYL clubhouse:
Beginner Class (Line Dance) – Friday: 3:00 – 4:30pm
Cultural Dance – Sunday: 12:00 – 3:00pm
Achievements
On 22 August 2010, our senior group has won the 3rd prize in World Dance section at McDonald’s Sydney Eisteddfod, at Science Theatre, University New South Wales. Our dance “Raindrops Falling on Banana Leaves” was judged by highly qualified and experienced expert, Wanda Wotjulexicz-Levine and received a remarkable feedback.
Dance Competition 2009 On 4 July 2009, our members also attended the McDonald’s Performing Arts Challenge presented by Sydney Eisteddfod. Our group won the highest score in the “Good” ranking. Our girls presented the dance proudly and confidently among the 15 competitors including Russian Dance, Spanish Dance, Mexican Dance, Indian Dance, Ukrainian Dance, etc.
