CYL Cantonese Opera
Cantonese opera is one of the major categories in Chinese opera, originating in southern China’s Cantonese culture. Like all versions of Chinese opera, it is a traditional Chinese art form, involving music, singing, martial arts, acrobatics, and acting.
The CYL Cantonese Opera Troupe was formed 18 years ago by Madam Dao Ping Wu, who is currently the Troupe Leader. It is well known in Sydney and is a member of the Australian Federation of the Traditional Chinese Musicals and Operas.
The CYL troupe members promote this magnificent and traditional art through shows, concerts, festivals, training and also charity performances. The troupe has very strong connection with the local Cantonese opera performing artists and attends to various art forms relating to the Cantonese Operas and dramas, including arranging music, writing lyrics, costume arrangement, make-up and stage props.
The Troupe has performed in a lot of major events with Darling Harbour Authority, Sydney City Council, Market City and is a dedicated supporter of the NSW Government Seniors’ Week CYL Cantonese Opera Troup was restructured in November, 1990. The group has been growing in the following 20 years. Every member adhered to the principles of serving the communities. During the 20 years, the estimated number of performances would be over 100. Our Troupe carried out many large performances, for example:

• Mid-Autumn Moon festival
• Birthday Celebration of Master HuaGuang
The Troupe also actively participating in many charitable activities:

• Victoria Bush Fire Disaster
• Shengong Opera
• Retarded Children and Adults Assisting Organisations
• Chinese Nursing Home Construction
